Fall Season Re-cap

11/21/2011, 12:53pm (EST)

BSC Angels finish out the fall season.

The Angels had an excellent second fall season of travel. The season started out great, the girls finished second place at the hurricane shortened Oley Valley tournament. The girls also took second at the Jack Walsh tournament with a 2-1-1 record and shutting two of their opponents in their Saturday games. During the regular fall season the girls finished 6-3-1. The girls lost 3 games 1-0, 2-1 and 2-0 - at no point during the season had an opposing team been able to score more than 2 goals. In addition, the girls shut out 4 opponents: 1-0, 1-0, 1-0 and 2-0 - now that is some excellent defending! The girls' record put them in 4th place overall. The girls defeated both the 1st (3-2) and 3rd (1-0) place teams. The girls handed the first place team their only loss of the season. The girls made excellent progress this season in the individual skills and in their team play. I am looking forward to coaching them through the winter and into the spring (and through the next few years)!

Angels take second place

The Angels started weekend being the first team to take the field with an 8:00 am game. The ladies came out to play! Our first opponent was Council Rock. The teams were evenly matched, but the Angels came to play. The Angels beat Council Rock 2-0 with goals being scored by Morgan and Meghan.

In the second game the Angels came out fired up against Yardley-Makefield. The Angels went up quickly scoring 4 goals, actually 5, but one goal was called back. The game ended with the Angels shutting out Yardley 4-0 with the goals coming off of the feet of Raeanne (2x), Maddi G and Maddi M. Meghan scored the goal that was incorrectly called back.

On Sunday the Angels played West-Mont in our last game of group play. The Angels were already in the Championship game. West-Mont needed to win to advance. Boyertown scored first with West-Mont getting their first goal a short time later. Then in the second half West-Mont scored their second goal putting them up 2-1. However the Angels never gave up and they tied the game late in the second half. The game ended 2-2 knocking West-Mont out of the Championship game. Goals came off of Morgan and Meghan.

In the Championship the Angels went up against a very tough / physical Ridley United team. The ladies scored first, but sadly we were not able to convert any more opportunities into goals. Ridley had a tough defense and did not give us many opportunities. On the other hand, they took advantage of the chances they were given getting the tying goal late in the first half and the go ahead goal late in the second half. The ladies had several opportunities late in the game, but Ridley's defense remained very tough and shut down our chances quickly. The game ended with Ridley winning 2-1 with the Angels taking second place. Maddi G scored our only goal of this game.

Overall the ladies played a great tournament and they saved their best game until the last game, but sadly today it was not enough. Great tournament ladies! Be proud and hold your heads high. You did great this weekend!

Angels take second place in a hurricane shortened tournament.

In a hurricane shortened tournament, the Angels come out strong. In the first game of the day on Saturday, the Angels played against a very strong Wilson Red team. The same team that took first place in the regular season and second in the playoffs. The same team that beat the Angels 5-0 during the regular season.

Wilson Red started the game strong and kept the ball in the Angels' half of the field most of the first half, but the Angels' held firm and a couple of great saves by Morgan kept the game scoreless at the half. In the second half play was even, but Wilson was able to draw first blood with an excellent long shot from outside the penalty box - score 1-0. The Angels had a brief let down after the goal and lost focus for a short time. But Wilson took advantage of this and created several goal scoring opportunities. One of these opportunities led to Wilson's second goal of the game. However the Angels fought back and late in the game Emma placed a beautiful shot into the back of the net. But the Angels ran out of time and lost the game 2-1.

After a long break, the Angels played their second game of the day against a team from Pine Grove. The Angels came out strong and played hard, but was not focused. Play stayed in Pine Grove's end of the field for most of the first half. Boyertown found the back of the net once during the first half with a well placed shot by Maddi M. Pine Grove played hard and had several good runs that pushed the Angels' defense to it's limit. Maddi G made several great saves and the Angels lead at the end of the half 1-0. After a short talk at the half, the Angels pulled themselves together and put on a goal scoring show. The Angels proved to themselves that they are a very good team. Maggie, Meghan, Raeanne and Maddi M all scored goals in the second half to win the game 6-0.

All Sunday games were then cancelled leaving the Angels in a 3 way tie with Wilson and Pine Grove for second place.  The Oley Valley tournament officials will review the rules for tie breakers later this week to see where the Angels actually placed.

Well done Angels! Everyone of you played a great game this weekend!
