The BSC Intramural Program hosted its annual Spring Sprint on Saturday, May 12 with abounding success! The sunny weather set the tone for fun-filled morning and afternoon. The boys and girls displayed great sportsmanship, effort, and skills thoughout the day. Vendors such as Rita's and Philly Pretzel Factory where present to provide a real tournament atmosphere. Congratulations to all of the intramural teams for a successful 2012 Spring Sprint!
Team Independence starts April with a successful 1st place finish. We started off with an early morning game and beat Catty Storm 2-1 with consistent pressure on the offensive 3rd and strong defense. Our second game we started off slow vs. Southern Lehigh but took control of the game in the second half and finished with a 2-0 finish to finish at the top of our division.
Entering the Semi-Final Game we knew we would be tested against a strong Towamencin Tigers team. We started off well but lost focus and found ourselves losing 3-1 with only about 15 minutes remaining. Almost as if the girls weren't worried, they rallied back to 3-3 and took it to a golden goal overtime. About 2 minutes into overtime and solid consistent pressure in the offensive third, we scored the golden goal to head into the Finals with Amity.
In a well played Finals match we finished with a solid 2-1 win. All the girls should be commended on a great tournament which showed their mental and physical toughness. Way to go girls!
The BSC U9 Girls Independence Team took 1st Place at the Blue Mountain Soccer Indoor Tournament.
After losing only one game and outscoring their opponents 15 to 1 the girls were eager to meet the team that beat them earlier that day. With only a 10 minute break between their final game and the championship game the girls played solid defense and put continued pressure on offense to take it to a golden goal overtime. About 3 minutes into overtime team Independence scored and took a 1st place finish in a well played game.
Awesome job girls and great solid teamwork, pressure, hustle, and defense. Way to go!
February 4, 2012, Wilkes-Barre, PA - Boyertown Soccer Club's Red Lions (Under 12 Boys) traveled to Wilkes-Barre today to face some of the best competition Eastern PA has to offer in the indoor state cup. The boys clinched their division by beating YMS Attack, Mannheim Blaze and Lower Merion Gremio. In the semi-final, the Red Lions came up against TEYSA '99, and won the match 1-0. The final match brought the team together with YMS Fusion. It was a back and forth match for the first 10 minutes, with each side scoring two goals. A knuckled blast from about 35 yards secured the lead for the Red Lions in the final third of the match. The boys then locked it down by shifting from a 2-1-2 formation to a 3-1-1, and even scored an insurance goal soon after. The final score was Red Lions 4, YMS Fusion 2. Great job, boys!
The Angels had an excellent second fall season of travel. The season started out great, the girls finished second place at the hurricane shortened Oley Valley tournament. The girls also took second at the Jack Walsh tournament with a 2-1-1 record and shutting two of their opponents in their Saturday games. During the regular fall season the girls finished 6-3-1. The girls lost 3 games 1-0, 2-1 and 2-0 - at no point during the season had an opposing team been able to score more than 2 goals. In addition, the girls shut out 4 opponents: 1-0, 1-0, 1-0 and 2-0 - now that is some excellent defending! The girls' record put them in 4th place overall. The girls defeated both the 1st (3-2) and 3rd (1-0) place teams. The girls handed the first place team their only loss of the season. The girls made excellent progress this season in the individual skills and in their team play. I am looking forward to coaching them through the winter and into the spring (and through the next few years)!
